Chanukah continues through Monday. During Chanukah, we: do not say Tachnun, add Hallel in Shacharis and say V’al Hanissim in Shmone Esrai and Bentching.

Thursday, the Fifth of Teves, is celebrated by Chasidim as the day in which the federal courts recognized ownership of the Previous Rebbe's library by Agudas Chasidei Chabad and by extension rejecting challenges to the authenticity of the Rebbe's leadership. The Rebbe declared that this day is an auspicious time especially to add to one's personal library of Torah books. You can read more about it here.

5) CHANUKAH VISITS TO NURSING HOMES
Several of our volunteers visited a number of area nursing homes. They brought dreidel games, menorah lighting, and happiness to the elderly. These visits were much appreciated.

6) CHANUKAH THRILLER REPORT
At the Chanukah Thriller on Sunday night, we had the ‘crime’ of our lives.A murder mystery was carefully orchestrated to accompany dinner. While people socialized at the reception, some cops burst into the room on full alert, looking out for trouble. After the victim was found in the library, the evening took on an investigative form. During the meal, participants helped solve the crime and pinpoint the perpetrator.

Special thanks to Vlad Gutkovsky and Mordy Groner for the soundtrack, Aaron Kaplan, Mendel Segal, and Vlad Gutkovsky for tending bar, Carol Cohn for making calls, Menachem Posner for all-round helpfulness, Renee Florence for manning the front desk, and especially Mrs. Zeesy Posner who played an excellent victim and delivered a Dvar Torah explaining the relevance of a murder mystery to Chanukah. Pictures are here.

7) GOVERNOR ROD BLAGOJEVICH LIGHTS THE MENORAH
On Tuesday night, Chabad of Illinois hosted a Chanukah party at the Bernard Horwich JCC. Governor Rod Blagojevich lit the menorah and gave a speech about the significance of Chanukah in current times. Several people got to meet privately with Governor Blagojevich. You can see pictures in our Chanukah photo gallery HERE.
