Community-wide evening of support for communities affected by Hurricane Sandy

There will be a gathering this Sunday, November 18, 8pm, at KINS, 2800 North Shore, Chicago, IL in support of those affected by Hurricane Sandy. There will be presentations by people from the affected area, reporting on the extent of the devastation and the need. A robust attendance at the event will communicate solidarity with those who were victims of the hurricane’s destruction, so your presence is important.

If you have not yet done so, you can contribute to the relief efforts in two ways: donations on our website here, or by donating gift cards for specific stores, with our new Jewish Youth House initiative, (more details below).  If you have contributed and you want to contribute again, you can do so, too.

Hurricane Sandy Gift Card Drive

Rabbi Chaim has arranged an initiative with the Jewish Youth House, and we are partnering with Rabbi Eli Goodman of Chabad of Long Beach, NY to assist folks to rebuild their community.

Many families have to start from the ground up, trying to get everything from furniture and appliances to pots and dishes, as well as actually getting their own homes back to safe and livable conditions. The thing that would be most useful is to help people set up their homes, by providing them the means to replace some of the larger essentials that they need. It isn’t practical to make a collection of furniture or pots, but what we can do is send them with gift cards to shop at stores that would carry those items.

We are collecting gift cards to stores like Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Toys R Us.

If you prefer to give a donation, that is also fine, we will purchase the gift cards and send them along with the others.You can drop off the gift cards/donations at the offices of Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie/Jewish Youth House, at 4043 Dempster in Skokie. For more info contact Rabbi Chaim.

Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau will be in Chicago

Come hear the gripping presentation from Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, entitled: “Buchenwald Exposed.”  Rabbi Lau is a powerful speaker and has a strong message to share.

The event will be held, Sunday evening, December 2, 7:00 PM at the Niles North High School Auditorium (across from Old Orchard mall).  This event is organized by JLI of Metropolitan Chicago.

Tickets are $18 in advance; $25 at the door. Reservations can be made here.

Jewish Youth House Update

JLI Teens  
JLI Teens had another amazing week, our group is growing from week t week. 
The coming week we will be discussing "How can we become advocates for Israel?" and “Why is Israel hated by the nations of the world?” This Monday 7:00 - 8:30 at the Mooz, Dinner will be served. 

Jewish Youth Club  
This week, Jewish Youth Clubs were in the spirit of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. Tehilim were said in their merit.The boys club will not meet in the coming week due to Thanksgiving.

Girls Kiddush 
The Girls Kiddush will take place on Shabbos after davening, at the Mooz. Girls 6 grade and up are invited.

Timely Reminders

This Thursday 11/22 is a legal holiday, so we will be on our legal holiday schedule - Shacharis at 8:00 a.m. and Mincha & Maariv at 4:10 p.m. There will be no 7:45 Maariv Minyan. The JLI classes will meet on Tuesday instead of Thursday.

Next Friday, the 9th of Kislev, is both the birthday (5534/1773) and the yahrzeit (5588/1827) of the second Lubavitcher Rebbe (the Mitteler Rebbe), R. Dovber.
