Chanukh 2012 is now Live

We are excited about Chanukah this year! With an event every night, it’s going to be a very bright holiday.

Information about ALL the events of Chanukah are online. The Chanukah pages are up and running on the website at www.SkokieChabad.org/Chanukah2012. Check it out! You will see that we really do have an event happening every day of Chanukah. Reserve online now for a discount to each of our Chanukah events, help share Chanukah with the IDF (via our partners in Israel), read articles, request free menorah lighting kits, and more! Anything you might need for Chanukah is on the website.

Check your mailbox this week for information about the Chanukah Wonderland for kids, and the Chanukah Lounge for adults. The Chanukah holiday guide should be there too! Make sure to share these with someone else, when you have absorbed all the useful information.

Don’t forget to click over to www.SkokieChabad.org/Chanukah2012 for the full inside scoop on everything that’s going on.

What We Can Do for our Brothers and Sisters in Israel

Our prayers and thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael. The Mitzvahs that we do add to theire safety and security there. The Rebbe encouraged to increase our Mitzvah observance and to encourage others to do likewise, specifically in the areas of Torah study, Tefillin, Tzedakah, Mezuzah and having Torah books in the home which all have the benefit of adding to the safety and protection of the Jewish people. You Can Give Us $25 At No Cost To You

Please take 2 minutes and do something really easy, which is really helpful to us. American Express has an interesting program right now called Small Business Saturday, and here is how it works.

  1. You donate at least $25 to Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie on your AMEX card.
  2. AMEX gives you a credit of $25 on your next statement.

You will have given us a donation and it cost you nothing! THIS IS REAL and there is a very small window of opportunity, because it is all over at 11:00 pm this Saturday night.

It takes two easy steps:

  1. Simply register your card with Amex, by clicking here:https://enroll.amexnetwork.com/US/en/SBS2012/
  2. Donate by going to www.SkokieChabad.org/AMEX

There is no catch. Please do it right away.

Thank you!

Hurricane Sandy Gift Card Drive

Rabbi Chaim has arranged an initiative with the Jewish Youth House, and we are partnering with Rabbi Eli Goodman of Chabad of Long Beach, NY to assist folks to rebuild their community.

Many families have to start from the ground up, trying to get everything from furniture and appliances to pots and dishes, as well as actually getting their own homes back to safe and livable conditions. The thing that would be most useful is to help people set up their homes, by providing them the means to replace some of the larger essentials that they need. It isn’t practical to make a collection of furniture or pots, but what we can do is send them with gift cards to shop at stores that would carry those items.

We are collecting gift cards to stores like Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Home Depot, and Toys R Us..

If you prefer to give a donation, that is also fine, we will purchase the gift cards and send them along with the others. You can drop off the gift cards/donations at the offices of Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie/Jewish Youth House, at 4043 Dempster in Skokie. To read more, or if you prefer to give a donation and have us purchase the gift cards, there’s a webpage for that here.. For more info contact Rabbi Chaim.

The coming week we will be discussing "Why was Christianity, for most of its history, virulently anti-Semitic?" and “How do Jews respond to Christian challenges and ‘proof’ texts?” To take place this Monday 7:00 - 8:30 at the Mooz. Dinner will be served.

Jewish Youth Club
This week’s Girls Club was the last of this session. The Boys Club did not meet this week so we will be on for this coming Thursday.

Earliest Tallis: on Mon: 5:59 am - Fri: 6:03 am
*) The time we are posting is primarily with our weekday 6:30 minyan attendees in mind. If someone must daven earlier, please be aware that there are other opinions of how to calculate this.

The tenth of Kislev, which occurs this Shabbos, is celebrated by Chassidim as the day that the Mitteler Rebbe was released from Czarist imprisonment in 5587/1826. We do not say “Tzidkas’cha” in Shabbos Mincha. You can read more about the life and times of the Mitteler Rebbe on our website, here.

Wednesday, the fourteenth of Kislev is the anniversary of the wedding of the Rebbe and Rebetzin in 1928. The Rebbe said of this day to the Chassidim: "This is the day that bound me to you, and you to me."
