Yud Tes Kislev Farbrengen for Men |
We will have a grand Yud Tes Kislev Farbrengen on Tuesday, December 4, starting at 8:00 p.m. at shul. The Farbrengen will be led by Rabbi Moshe Miller.
Yud Tes Kislev is celebrated as the “Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus,” and is the day the Alter Rebbe was freed from prison in czarist Russia. This was a watershed event in the history of Chassidism, heralding a new era in the revelation of the “inner soul” of Torah. You can read about Yud-Tes Kislev on our website here.
Rabbi Miller a prolific author and translator, with some twenty books to his name on a wide variety of topics. He is a popular lecturer, mostly on Jewish mystical topics. He teaches the Sunday evening course on the introduction to Chasidus and should have lots of interesting things to share with us about Yud Tes Kislev.
We will daven Maariv at 7:45 p.m. and begin the farbrengen at 8:00 p.m.
Prize Week |
This week we are opening up “shop” for the kids to redeem their tokens for prizes and games. Everyone can shop and choose prizes which will then be placed in bags, with their names, to be taken home after Shabbos.
On Shabbos, one is not allowed to acquire things, so for this halachic reason, prizes cannot be taken home on Shabbos. If the parents cannot pick up the prizes at a time when the shul is open for regular davening, you can contact Yona Posner at 847 677 1770 x305 to arrange another time.

We are excited about Chanukah this year! With an event every night, it’s going to be a very bright holiday.

Chanukah Wonderland for Kids |
Bring all the kids to the Chanukah Wonderland on December 9, 2012, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie. Everyone will have a great time, with activities, crafts and live shows, facepaint, dreidel slam, Make-a-Donut, digital Chanukah station, make a card for an IDF soldier, moon bounce, Chanukah gelt, and even take a photo with Judah Maccabee!

Chanukah Learning for Men and Women |
Enjoy another riveting class from the Torah Perspectives series with Rabbi Yosef Posner, to take place December 12, 8:00 p.m.!. This time the topic is, “Chanukah: Which Miracle are we Celebrating?” Men and women are welcome to join.
Spreading the Chanukah Light |
During Chanukah volunteers will be visiting the Jewish residents of all of the nursing homes and the hospital in Skokie, bringing them the light and joy of Chanukah. This is being coordinated by Tiffany Fedida. If you would like to be part of this, please contact her.
Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Lecture – On the Verge of Selling Out |
Former Chief Rabbi of Israel Yisrael Meir Lau will be speaking about his childhood experiences at Buchenwald this Sunday evening. This event has generated a lot of interest and tickets are going fast. The event will be THIS Sunday evening, December 2, 7:00 PM at the Niles North High School Auditorium (across from Old Orchard mall). This event is organized by JLI of Metropolitan Chicago. Jewish Youth House Update |
JLI Teens
This Monday will be our final class of the "SuperJew" course. We will be discussing how to implement the knowledge we have gained in the past 6 weeks to become a true "SuperJew."

Jewish Youth Club boys ended its first session with a grand BBQ this week. We all had a great time.

The Jewish Youth House is in full swing preparing for Chanukah! Stay tuned for our teen event and public Menorah lighting with the mayor of Skokie.

Conclusion and a New Beginning |
The Gemara class which meets every weekday morning after Shacharis began the study of Tractate Brachos last Yud Tes Kislev with the goal of finishing it before this Yud Tes Kislev as our participation in the annual world-wide joint completion of the Talmud, instituted by the Alter Rebbe and celebrated each Yud Tes Kislev. We are very close to the finish line and hope to have it completed by Monday. We will then start on Tractate Makos to be completed, G‑d willing, in the coming year.
