Happy Anniversary

This week we mark the 30th anniversary of the beginning of our Shul. We began on Shabbos Parshas Shemos, the 23rd of Teves, 1983, with davening in the Lowenstein home.

Kiddush Lunch

This week’s kiddush will be a washing kiddush/lunch, sponsored by Gil and Tal Gold to thank Hashem for everything He has bestowed upon their family. The fleishig cholent will be especially made by Tal Gold.

Community-Wide Farbrengen – 200 Years

In honor of the 200th Yahrzeit of the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad, there will be a grand Melaveh Malkah and Farbrengen this Motzai Shabbos, 24th of Teves, (January 5), 8:00 p.m. at Cong. Bnei Ruven, 6350 N. Whipple in Chicago. Rabbis Chaim Twersky and Moshe Yosef Unger will give Divrei Bracha, and the guest speaker will be Rabbi Sholom Wineberg, translator of “Lessons in Tanya.” There will be a separate simultaneous program for and by women. Introduction to Chassidus – Next Course Begins this Sunday

The first six week Chassidus course with Rabbi Moshe Miller at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie was very enjoyable and a true learning experience for all of the participants. You are invited to attend the next course in this series.

This course will focus on the overall topic of “אין עוד מלבדו There is nothing beside Him - So how did we get to be here?”

Basic familiarity with Hebrew reading and translating required. This course is ideal for individuals who have some experience with learning Chassidus, whether it is simply attending shiurim at a Shul or a Chabad House, or even yeshiva graduates. Men and women are welcome.

This six week Chassidus course with Rabbi Moshe Miller will begin on January 6, 2013, and will meet on Sundays at 8pm at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie 4059 Dempster Street.

Tuition for this course is $60. Study materials are included, and there will be homework assignments and mini tests so you can monitor your progress and your retention of the material.

Breakfast Club for Men

There will be a breakfast for men at Shul on January 13, 2013, 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. Rabbi Posner will discuss some interesting Halacha of Business case studies. We thank Hiam Naiditch for being the driving force behind this event, and his committee of Yehuda Leib Burgeman, Evan Loiterman, Rob Phillips, Dr. Berel Polisky, Steve Rosenberg.

Living With Integrity

Register now for the upcoming course from the Jewish Learning Institute. Living with Integrity - Navigating Everyday Ethical Dilemmas begins in a few weeks.

Are you obliged to keep all commitments? What are the responsibilities of the sandwich generation? Are the ungracious deserving of our charity? How far should we go to give the benefit of the doubt? A discussion on personal ethics and the Jewish view on laws that test the limits of our integrity.

This course meets for 6 Thursdays beginning January 31 - March 14, at 10:30 AM or 8:00 PM, or for 6 Sundays beginning February 3- March 17, at 10:30 AM.

This course is eligible for CLE credits and ETHICS credits. Fee $100.00 - tuition includes textbook.  Multiple Signups Special: 10% off with Minimum 2 signups.

Save the Date – Shabbat Dinner

On Friday, January 25, enjoy Shabbat dinner with friends, followed by an interesting presentation.

·        Do we have the basic knowledge of what the Torah expects of us in the business world, or how to conduct ourselves when it comes to money?

·        What happens when special situations arise, and you may need to do something questionable?

Shalom Menorah will answer these questions and more, based on his 30 years of experience in business both in Israel and the U.S.  Shalom, who originally hails from Chicago, currently lives in Israel, where he runs his real estate and hi-tech investment company. He is on the board of the Jewish Business Ethics Center in Jerusalem.

Baba Sali Hilula Dinner

The Hilula dinner in honor of the Baba Sali, Rabbi Yisrael Abichatzeira zt”l, on Monday, January 14, 2013 is sold out. Everyone is welcome to drop in for a l’chaim and to light a candle. Maariv that evening will take place downstairs, at 7:15 p.m., instead of the usual time.

Jewish Youth House Update

CTEEN Shabbaton in NYC 
The National CTeen Shabbaton will take place in New York over Shabbat, February 8-10. Teens from Skokie join others from all over the country, for the greatest “high school reunion” experience!
