PURIM is Coming

The countdown to an amazing Purim has begun! We have so much happening, that all the information is already up online at www.SkokieCabad.org/Purim.

Make sure to watch and share this fun video that we made, to introduce our Purim events and activities!

Here’s a rundown of some things to expect:

·         Purim in Persia is our famously fantastic Purim party for families, on Motzei Shabbat, 2/23/13. Join us for crafts, activities, animals, entertainment, and fun for the whole family! ·         Hourly Megillah Readings: Make sure to listen to the Megillah being read twice on Purim – once at night and once during the day. It’s easy to do with Skokie Chabad, we have readings every hour, on the hour. Purim night (2/23) from 7:00 pm – 12 midnight, and Purim day (2/24) every hour from 9:00 am through 5:00 pm.

·         Purim Seudah – make sure to reserve a spot for your family! No need to worry that you will be partied out by Purim afternoon, and don’t forget that one of the mitzvahs is to eat a festive meal! Join us for live music, entertainment, and a sit-down dinner for Purim. Reservations are required – click here:www.SkokieChabad.org/2122102

·         Matanot L’Evyonim – The Mitzvah is to give directly to two different needy people on Purim day. We make it easy for you on a hectic day! You can submit the information online and Rabbi Posner will deliver on your behalf on Purim day: www.SkokieChabad.org/2122094

·         Mishloach Manot – you can help bring Purim joy to nursing home residents and elderly people on Purim! Contact us to be part of this mitzvah, and to visit and deliver mishloach Manot to the residents on Purim.

Open Casting Call

This year’s Megillah-reading slideshow will feature the people  of our community. Make sure your family is part of the fun!

Open casting/photography will be this Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Come then to be photographed. We will be featuring up to 80 people in the slideshow, so don’t miss out!

Study Rambam!

This past Monday was a big day for hundreds of thousands! Across the globe people concluded a cycle of Maimonides’ code of Jewish law, known as the Mishneh Torah or his book on the 613 commandments, known as Sefer Hamitzvot.

If you have yet to take the plunge…starting is simple:

Maimonides’ code covers all the laws of the Torah. By studying it, you will fulfill the special mitzvah to become familiar with every area of Jewish law!

You will also join a global community of Jews who, transcending boundaries of time and space, are studying the entire Torah in unison. Double unity: The whole Torah around the whole world!

We make it easy! Whichever track you choose, we have on our website a full menu of  Hebrew and Englishtexts, as well as daily audio and  video classes to help you along.

The daily mitzvah track, which also started this week, covers a portion of Maimonides’ Sefer Hamitzvot which over the year covers, in a brief way, each of the 613 commandments.

Alternatively, you can join the one-chapter-a-day program finishing the entire code every three years.

You can also, order the Chayenu booklet  www.chayenu.org which will arrive in your mailbox weekly. The Chayenu has the daily Maimonides portions each week, the weekly Torah portion with Rashi and much more. You can use it at home or take it with you to study on the way.

Jewish Youth House Update

Cteen Shabbaton Is Here! 
We are in NYC for an amazing weekend with over 700 teens from all over the world, There are teens from the U.S , Canada, Europe, and even Africa (yup) you can follow our trip here. Check back next week for a full report.

Jewish Youth Clubs 
The Jewish Youth Club for boys will meet on Thursday 5:00 - 6:00 PM.

This week the girls enjoyed Delicious Pizza (Thank you, Main Pizza), and decorated black and white cookies as we learned about our two very different souls, and how we can get them to work together.

There will be no Girls club this coming week.

“Eighth Day” Back In Chicago 
This isn't your mother's Jewish country indie folk rock band! Join Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie and the Jewish Youth House for an amazing concert with breakaway hit band, Eighth Day!
We are excited to have nabbed a great block of seats, where we can be up close to all the energy and action. Eighth Day is most well-known for their danceable fun song, Ya'alili and their Jewish folksy, country, hip indie rock vibe. They are legendary at Skokie Chabad for having played the music that makes tables collapse! (Photos from that Purim are here :)

Nichum Aveilim

With sadness we report the passing of Gusta Galster, sister ofתבדלחט"א  Mrs. Fela Pinhasik. She is sitting Shiva in her home, 4050 Enfield, through Tuesday morning.

"May Hashem comfort her among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim."
