Time to Pick Up Matzah

The Shmurah Matzah has arrived, and is available for pickup 9 -5 at our office at 4043 Dempster St., and after daily Mincha and Maariv. Or you can call 847-677-1770 x 304 to arrange for a pickup time that is convenient for you.

Don’t forget to Sell Your Chametz

Arrange for the sale of your chametz right now. You can do it online here. Forms are also included the Pesach Guide which you received in the mail, and are available in Shul.

Matzah Bakery for Kids This Sunday

Children are welcome to come bake their very own matza at the Model Matza Bakery. This event is for all ages. Beginning with wheat kernels, children get really into it, winnowing and separating the chaff, grinding it in a hand-driven wheat mill, mixing, kneading, rolling and baking it finally in the required amount of time.

Your child will leave with a special baker’s hat, fresh homemade “matzah”, a real Shmurah Matzah sample , and a big smile!

Seder How-To, Step by Step

Join Rabbi Yochanan Posner for a step-by-step guide to conducting your very own Pesach seder.  Whether it is your first time leading a seder, or you’d like a “brush-up” on information, you will finish this class empowered to direct a fully halachic Seder that will be enjoyable for all.

We Are Cleaning

If you have not yet done so, please clean out your talis bag and any other things you may have stored in shul, as we prepare the building to be chametz-free .

Please do not bring any Chametz into the building.

Cleaning crews will be hard at work all week so take note of changing traffic patterns.

Helping The Needy For Pesach

Ma’ot Chittim, Tzorchai Hachag, whatever you choose to call it, there is an actual need that you can address in our own community: There are families in our community who are struggling financially with their daily needs. Many of these families simply do not have enough money for the additional expenses of Pesach. Give your contribution to Rabbi Posner to forward to a needy family or donate online here.

Shaimos - Corrected Date

As you clean up for Pesach and encounter the perennial Shaimos problem, please consider carefully what is in fact Shaimos. It is not respectful to the Shaimos to deposit all sorts of non-Shaimos discarded materials with the Shaimos, and please be aware that it costs the shul a lot to dispose of Shaimos.

Shaimos is being accepted this Sunday, March 17, 1-5 p.m., at 7532 St.Louis,. (If you must drop Shaimos at shul, it would be appropriate to help defray the cost to the shul.)

Koshering Utensils for Pesach

Do you need help koshering utensils for Pesach? Bring your stuff for an open house Koshering, on Thursday, March 21, from 5 pm to 8 pm. We will have a large vat of boiling water ready to Kosher your utensils for Pesach, and personnel to do the koshering for you while you wait. Any utensils to be Koshered must be thoroughly cleaned at least 24 hours before. Only metal tableware or pots can be Koshered. Bakeware, china, etc. cannot be done.

Jewish Youth House Update

JLI TEENS – WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?  
JLI Teens had another great week!We welcomed some new faces, had great food, and explored awesome ideas. We will meet next Monday to discuss some riveting topics, including “Will going green put the economy in the red? Does Judaism believe in animal rights and environmental rights?" and more. JLI Teens meets on Monday nights, 7:00 PM at the Mooz. Dinner is served.

Model Matzah Bakery

Hashovas Aveidah - Missing Scarf

A men’s black cashmere scarf went missing in Shul last week. If you find it please rturn it to Mr. Alex Bogachkov or to one of the Rabbis.

Kiddush Lunch and Alerts

In honor of Tom Atkins’ Bar Mitzvah this week, Kiddush will be a lunch, with Challah, so you can wash and have your seudah.

In honor of Pesach, there will be NO kiddush next Shabbos, Parshat Tzav, 3/23/13, because the building will already be cleaned.

There will be no kiddush on Shabbos Chol Hamoed Pesach.

We do not say Tachnun during the month of Nissan. We say the “Nasi” for each day (Annotated Siddur, p. 391-397) after Shacharis.

Friday, Yud-Alef Nisan is the Rebbe's birthday, and marks 111 years since his birth. We begin saying Ch. 112 in Tehillim. In honor of this day do something special: learn extra Torah, give Tzedakah, invite someone to a seder, give them Shmurah Matzah. Help another Jew do the same. Help realize the Rebbe's (and every Jew's) dream of bringing Moshiach!

Planning ahead: Earliest time for Kiddush at the first Seder will be 7:37 p.m. Earlliest time to begin preparing for second Seder on is 7:52 p.m.
