Bringing New Life to Tehillim

It is Chabad custom to recite the entire Tehillim the morning of the Shabbos when we bless the coming month, and this has always been listed on the schedule. The Previous Rebbe writes that reciting the tehillim on Shabbos Mevarchim benefits, oneself, one’s family, children and grandchilren. This month we hope to take it to a new level by getting commitments for at least a minyan to attend and participate, beginning at 7:30 a.m. A bonus will be the scrumptious Mezonos and Coffee buffet. If you think you can make it, please let Rabbi Raices know.

Smooth Transition for the Children’s Progams

Beginning with this Shabbos, Yona Posner is officially on maternity leave from running the children’s programs at Shul. For the next 6 weeks, Mrs. Rivkie Raices has graciously accepted the lead position. Everything is in her capable hands. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel comfortable reaching out to her.

Men’s Breakfast and Learning This Sunday, May 5

Once again, men are invited for a sumptuous breakfast buffet and a presentation by Rabbi Posner on “When property rights conflict with the right to life? “ We thank the committee members Brian Alexander, Yehuda Leib Burgeman, Evan Loiterman, Hiam Naiditch , Rob Phillips, Dr. Berel Polisky, and Steve Rosenberg, for planning and executing this program. This will take place this Sunday morning, May 5, after Shacharis (about 9:00 a.m.)

Curious Tales Of The Talmud – Beginning

The first Sunday session of the current JLI course, Curious Tales of the Talmud, will be this Sunday morning, on May 5, at 10:30 am.

This course meets for six sessions, and began April 25 (for those attending on Thursdays) or May 5 (to attend on Sundays). To register click here .

We Need Your Money … In the Box

You should have received via snail mail a pop-up Tzedakah box. Please give it a prominent place in your home and use it frequently. When it is full, or if you have family and friends that would like one, please contact us by phone or via the website, www.SkokieChabad.org/Pushka. This project is dedicated in loving memory of Calvin and Lila Glustoff and Mollie and Max Superstein by Judi and David Superstein.

Looking Ahead to Shavuos

Here are some things to remember for the upcoming Festival:

  • There will be all night Torah study the first night of Shavuos, which occurs this year on next Tuesday night, May 14.
  • The Lubavitcher Rebbe encourages children, even very young ones, to be present at the reading of the Ten Commandments on Shavuos. Wednesday morning of Shavuos there will be a program for children, beginning at 10 am with special prizes for those who are punctual, and fun for all.
  • There will be an elegant Dairy Kiddush after davening on Wednesday, beginning at about 11:30 a.m., with lasagna, cheesecake, and other delicious foods (some will be pareve). This is a great opportunity for sponsorship.

Wristbands from The Great Jewish Family Festival Still Have Value

The Great Jewish Family Festival is over, but you can turn in your wristband(s) to Hungarian Kosher and get $15 off every purchase of $100 or more. This offer is good through Sunday, May 12. Perfect for shopping for all your Shavuos needs. This means you can get a full rebate on your tickets bought with an advance discount.

Introduction to Chassidus –The Third Course Begins Next Week

The first two Chassidus courses with Rabbi Moshe Miller at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie were very enjoyable learning experiences for all of the participants. You are invited to attend the next course in this series.

This course will focus on the overall topic of “Tzimtzum”.

We will trace the origin of the subject to a posuk in Torah; elaborate its meaning, logic and how it is connected with other concepts in Torah and Chassidus; discuss different understandings of the concept by different authorities.

Basic familiarity with Hebrew reading and translating required. This course is ideal for individuals who have some experience with learning Chassidus, whether it is simply attending shiurim at a Shul or a Chabad House, or even yeshiva graduates. Men and women are welcome.

This six week Chassidus course with Rabbi Moshe Miller will begin on May 12, 2013, and will meet on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie 4059 Dempster Street.

Tuition for this course is $60. Study materials are included, and there will be homework assignments and mini tests so you can monitor your progress and your retention of the material.

For more information please contact Dovid Lapson, robertlaps@comcast.net, or Rabbi Moshe,moshemiller@yahoo.com, or call us.
