News and Announcements

Aliyah Alert

It is customary to receive an Aliyah on the Shabbos before one observes a Yahrzeit of a parent. The Rebbe encouraged Chassidim to receive an Aliyah on the Shabbos before the Yahrzeit of the previous Rebbe, as part of their observance of the day.

Many may want to receive an Aliyah this Shabbos, the Shabbos before Gimel Tamuz. If you would like an Aliyah this Shabbos, and have not yet notified the Gabbai, please do so ASAP so that proper arrangements can be made.

Gimel Tammuz

This Tuesday, third day of Tammuz, marks the nineteenth yahrzeit of the Rebbe. This is an auspicious day to strengthen our connection with the Rebbe, through learning his Torah teachings, and, by adding in our observance of Mitzvos as he taught us, especially with increased Tzedaka, and by helping other Yidden to grow in Yiddishkeit. More information can be found here.

Graduates Kiddush

The “Graduates Kiddush” is this Shabbos. The participating graduates include: Yaakov Honorow (Accounting Course), Jesse Hunt (8th Grade), Daniel Lapson (YU), Meir Lapson (High School), Eden Owen (Preschool), Adina Sperling (8th Grade), Sarah Leah Sperling (Seminary), Eliezer Michah Superstein (Mesivta), Meira Tziona Superstein (8th Grade), Mendel Telsner (Mrs. Posner’s Preschool).

At kiddush, each graduate will be called by name and it is a very special and exciting moment.

If we have left anyone out, please let us know ASAP.

Washing Kiddush Lunch

This week in addition to honoring the graduates at Kiddush, we will also be part of a Seudat Hoda’ah – a festive meal of thanks to Hashem, sponored by Irit and Itzik Levy in thanks to Hashem for Itzik’s good health. In view of this we will have some extra items at the Kiddush, including Challah rolls to make it into a real Seudah.

Jewish Women’s Book Club This Week

Jewish Women's Book Club will meet this Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the home of Carole Cohen, 8550 Keeler in Skokie, at 8:00 p.m. They will discuss “A Daughter of Two Mothers,” by Miriam Cohen. This is a gripping, true account of a handicapped widow's forced separation from her infant daughter, the years of longing and searching, the legal battle, and the subsequent destruction brought by the Nazis. Open this book and you will step into the world of a generation gone, of pre- and post-war Hungarian Jewry, as young Leichu moves between two communities and their divergent lifestyles. For information, speak to a member of the Jewish Women's Book Club committee: Daniella Adar, Yona Posner, or Kalilah Chaya Watson

Israeli Minyan on the Go

Next week, Parshas Chukas (June 15), the Israeli Minyan will meet at the Doubletree Hotel at Skokie Blvd. and Golf Rd.

Jewish Art Calendar For 5774

The Jewish Art Calendar which we produce each year is most people’s favorite calendar. It is informative, pleasing to the eye, and has huge boxes to write in reminders for each day. You can place an ad or have any special dates noted, such as birthdays, anniversaries, yahrzeits, etc., in the Jewish Art Calendar for the coming year. The layout is being designed right now, and will be sent to the printer in just a few weeks. For more information, or to place your ads and dates, please contact us.
