Jewish Art Calendar For 5774

The Jewish Art Calendar which we produce each year is most people’s favorite calendar. It is informative, pleasing to the eye, and has huge boxes to write in reminders for each day. You can place an ad or have any special dates noted, such as birthdays, anniversaries, yahrzeits, etc., in the Jewish Art Calendar for the coming year. The layout is being designed right now, and will be sent to the printer in about a week. For more information, or to place your ads and dates, please contact us.

Minyan Alert

Many of our daily Minyan regulars are away or not available for a variety of reasons. Please make every effort to join us for weekday Shacharis, Mincha and Maariv, Sunday through Friday, as frequently as you can. The evenings have seen particularly unspectacular attendance lately and would very much appreciate a boost in attendance.

Hebrew School Yard Signs

Skokie Chabad Hebrew School yard signs are popping up all over Skokie! If you would like to proudly display one on your lawn, please contact Rabbi Chaim.

New Book: Jewish Women’s Book Club

Here’s the new book for Jewish Women’s Book Club: Forever My Jerusalem, by Puah Shteiner.

This is a fascinating, first-hand account of the fall and evacuation of the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, as witnessed through the eyes of a young girl living there in 1948, complete with maps and photos.

The book is available for purchase here.

We will be meeting to discuss the book on July 24, 2013.

Timely Reminders

This Tuesday is the Seventeenth of Tamuz, a fast day marking the day that the walls of Yerushalayim were breached, and beginning the Three Week period of mourning culminating with Tisha B'Av. .

Fast begins Tuesday ........................3:07 a.m.
Mincha on Tuesday ........................8:05 p.m. (Please note the earlier time.)
Fast ends..........................................9:10 p.m.

Other sad events occurred on this day, such as the making of the "golden calf" after receiving the Torah.

The Fast begins at dawn. Selichos are recited in Shacharis. At Mincha there is Torah-reading and Haftorah, and we recite Aneinu in Shmona Esrai.

During the Three Weeks period we do not make weddings, and playing musical instruments or listening to music is prohibited, as is the buying and wearing of new garments. We also do not take haircuts during this time. The Rebbe calls for increased acts of Ahavas Yisrael and studying those parts of Torah which discuss building the Bais Hamikdash, such as Navi Yecheskel beginning Ch. 40, Rambam Hilchos Bais Habechira, etc.
