Aryeh Kitzes in honor of his sister's Yahrzeit on 6th of Menachem Av

Timely Reminders

The Molad of Chodesh Menachem Av will be Monday, 9:18 a.m.

During the Three Weeks period we do not make weddings, and playing musical instruments or listening to music is prohibited, as is the buying and wearing of new garments. We also do not take haircuts during this time. The Rebbe calls for increased acts of Ahavas Yisrael and studying those parts of Torah which discuss building the Bais Hamikdash, such as Navi Yecheskel beginning Ch. 40, Rambam Hilchos Bais Habechira, etc.

The Hebrew month of Menachem Av begins on Monday. This begins the “Nine Days.” During the Nine Days we enter a period of more intense mourning for the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash. In addition to the restrictions of the Three Weeks, we do not eat meat or drink wine, bathe for pleasure, launder, etc. On Shabbos we avoid all signs of mourning, but do not eat fruits requiring a "Shehecheyanu." The Rebbe encourages making Siyumim, thus increasing joy in a way permissible during this time. There will be Siyumim made in Shul after Mincha on some days.

Read more about the Three Weeks and Nine Days here.
