Tisha B’Av Film

On Monday night, after Eicha, we will show the documentary film “Nicky’s Family”.

“Nicky's Family” tells the nearly forgotten story of Nicholas Winton, an Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II.

Winton, now 104 years old, did not speak about these events with anyone for more than half a century. His exploits would have probably been forgotten if his wife, fifty years later, hadn‘t found a suitcase in the attic, full of documents and transport plans.

A new Torah is being donated to our shul, and dedicated by Marge Fettman in honor of her husband, her parents, and her husband’s parents.

Jewish Youth House Update

We're hosting Jersey 
This week CTeen of Skokie will be hosting a traveling camp from the JCC in Margate City, NJ. We will enjoy an inspirational Friday night dinner and program at Shul. 

There will be a girls Kiddush this Shabbos in the Mooz, after davening.

Timely Reminders

During the Nine Days we enter a period of more intense mourning for the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash. In addition to the restrictions of the Three Weeks, we do not eat meat or drink wine, bathe for pleasure, launder, etc. The Rebbe encourages making Siyumim, thus increasing joy in a way permissible during this time. There will be Siyumim made in Shul after Mincha on some days.

TISHA B'AV INFORMATION:

Erev Tisha B’Av, Monday 
It is prohibited to study Torah (except for sections related to the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash) beginning at 12:57 pm. Tachanun is omitted at MinchaSeudah Hamafsekes (the meal of bread and egg dipped in ash) is eaten individually (i.e. without a mezuman) on a low stool after Mincha. Eating is

permitted, even after the Seudah Hamafsekes, until 8:21 pm. After 8:21 pm one may wear only non-leather shoes and sit only on a low stool. We do not offer greetings throughout TishaB’Av.

It is not our custom to sleep on the floor. In the morning (as well as throughout the day such as after using the bathroom) wash only the finger tips. Brushing teeth is prohibited.

Shacharis 
Omit the brocha “She’asah li kol tzorki”. Tallis and Tefilin are not worn; we do not make the brocha onTzitzis or kiss them during Shema, etc. After Krias HaTorah we recite Kinos. Eicha is read after Shachrisindividually (not led by a chazan).

Work requiring focused concentration (e.g., gardening, cooking, etc.) and sitting on an ordinary seat is prohibited until midday on Tuesday (12:57 pm).

Mincha 
In Tallis and Tefilin. In Shemoneh Esrai include Nacheim and Aneinu. Be careful to remove Tefilin  beforeshkia  (8:24 pm).

The Fast concludes at 9:02 pm.

After the fast is over, wash hands in alternating fashion as we do each morning.  We do not eat meat, drink wine, listen to music, shower for pleasure or launder clothing until midday (12:57 pm) on Wednesday.

Maariv and Eicha at 9:00 p.m. (and followed by a screening of “       ” 
Tisha B’Av Shacharis is at 9:00 a.m. 
Mincha is at 7:25 p.m.

Shabbat L'Yisraelim, provided by Rabbi Menachem Slavaticki and the Chabad Israeli Center, will meet this Shabbat at 10:00 a.m. on the lower level for Shacharit. The Tefila is followed by a complete Seudat Shabbat.
