Chanukh 2012 is now Live

We are excited about Chanukah this year! With an event every night, it’s going to be a very bright holiday.

Information about ALL the events of Chanukah are online. The Chanukah pages are up and running on the website at www.SkokieChabad.org/Chanukah2012. Check it out! You will see that we really do have an event happening every day of Chanukah. Reserve online now for a discount to each of our Chanukah events, help share Chanukah with the IDF (via our partners in Israel), read articles, request free menorah lighting kits, and more! Anything you might need for Chanukah is on the website.

Check your mailbox this week for information about the Chanukah Wonderland for kids, and the Chanukah Lounge for adults. The Chanukah holiday guide should be there too! Make sure to share these with someone else, when you have absorbed all the useful information.

What We Can Do for our Brothers and Sisters in Israel

Our prayers and thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael. The Mitzvahs that we do add to theire safety and security there. The Rebbe encouraged to increase our Mitzvah observance and to encourage others to do likewise, specifically in the areas of Torah study, Tefillin, Tzedakah, Mezuzah and having Torah books in the home which all have the benefit of adding to the safety and protection of the Jewish people. Hurricane Sandy Gift Card Drive

Rabbi Chaim has arranged an initiative with the Jewish Youth House, and we are partnering with Rabbi Eli Goodman of Chabad of Long Beach, NY to assist folks to rebuild their community.

Many families have to start from the ground up, trying to get everything from furniture and appliances to pots and dishes, as well as actually getting their own homes back to safe and livable conditions. The thing that would be most useful is to help people set up their homes, by providing them the means to replace some of the larger essentials that they need. It isn’t practical to make a collection of furniture or pots, but what we can do is send them with gift cards to shop at stores that would carry those items.

We are collecting gift cards to stores like Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Home Depot, and Toys R Us..

If you prefer to give a donation, that is also fine, we will purchase the gift cards and send them along with the others. You can drop off the gift cards/donations at the offices of Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie/Jewish Youth House, at 4043 Dempster in Skokie. Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau will be in Chicago

Come hear the gripping presentation from Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, entitled: “Buchenwald Exposed.”Rabbi Lau is a powerful speaker and has a strong message to share.

The event will be held, Sunday evening, December 2, 7:00 PM at the Niles North High School Auditorium (across from Old Orchard mall).This event is organized by JLI of Metropolitan Chicago.

Jewish Youth House Update

JLI Teens 
JLI Teens had another amazing week. This past week, the topic of our class was timely, "Defending Israel." The students discussed and debated the Jewish-Arab conflict dating back to Yitzchak and Yishmael, Tehillim was said, and Tzdaka was given in the merit of our brothers and sisters in the holy land.

The coming week we will be discussing "Why was Christianity, for most of its history, virulently anti-Semitic?" and “How do Jews respond to Christian challenges and ‘proof’ texts?” To take place this Monday 7:00 - 8:30 at the Mooz. Dinner will be served.

Jewish Youth Club 
This week’s Girls Club was the last of this session. The Boys Club did not meet this week so we will be on for this coming Thursday.

J.Y.C. second session begins January 16th.

Girls Kiddush 
The Girls Kiddush will take place on Shabbos after davening, at the Mooz. Girls 6 grade and up are invited.

The tenth of Kislev, which occurs this Shabbos, is celebrated by Chassidim as the day that the Mitteler Rebbe was released from Czarist imprisonment in 5587/1826. We do not say “Tzidkas’cha” in Shabbos Mincha. You can read more about the life and times of the Mitteler Rebbe on our website, here.

Wednesday, the fourteenth of Kislev is the anniversary of the wedding of the Rebbe and Rebetzin in 1928. The Rebbe said of this day to the Chassidim: "This is the day that bound me to you, and you to me."
