One Week to Purim |
Purim is only a week away! We have so much happening; all the information is up online atwww.SkokieCabad.org/Purim.
We created a series of “The Quest for Purim” videos promoting all our Purim activities activities! They are on our YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/skokiechabad. Another video is being released every few days, for a total of 5 episodes. Please enjoy these videos and share them with your friends by email or Facebook. Please help spread the word about everything that is happening, so that others can enjoy what you already know to be the best. Call people and invite them to attend, forward links to the videos and our website to friends, and keep talking about it.
Here’s a rundown of some things to expect:
· Megillah Slideshow - The slideshow that will play during the 7:00 p.m. Megillah reading on Motzei Shabbat will feature some familiar faces! We took photos of kids and adults who are in Hebrew School, preschool, and even the JLI course! These people are the stars of this slideshow.
· Purim in Persia is our famously fantastic Purim party for families, on Motzei Shabbat, 2/23/13. Join us for crafts, activities, animals, entertainment, and fun for the whole family! Reserve online now to get a $2 discount for each attendee, and to avoid the rush: www.SkokieChabad.org/2122093
· Hourly Megillah Readings: Make sure to listen to the Megillah being read twice on Purim – once at night and once during the day. It’s easy to do with Skokie Chabad, we have readings every hour, on the hour. Purim night (2/23) from 7:00 pm – 12 midnight, and Purim day (2/24) every hour from 9:00 am through 5:00 pm.
· Purim Seudah – make sure to reserve a spot for your family! No need to worry that you will be partied out by Purim afternoon, and don’t forget that one of the mitzvahs is to eat a festive meal! · Matanot L’Evyonim – The Mitzvah is to give directly to two different needy people on Purim day. We make it easy for you on a hectic day! You can submit the information online and Rabbi Posner will deliver on your behalf on Purim day: www.SkokieChabad.org/2122094
· Mishloach Manot – you can help bring Purim joy to nursing home residents and elderly people on Purim! Contact us to be part of this mitzvah, and to visit and deliver mishloach Manot to the residents on Purim.
Stuff You Need to Know about Next Shabbos |
Next Shabbos, 2/23, there will be NO kiddush.
Next Shabbos, 2/23 there will be no kids’ groups meeting. We will however have the kid’s room open during davening.
On Purim, Motzei Shabbos there will be a megillah reading immediately after Maariv downstairs.

Kehilah Fund Shabbos |
This Shabbos, thirty Shuls in the greater Chicago area will be talking about the Kehillah Fund. The Kehillah Fund distributes thousands of dollars each month to the area day schools. The money comes from the hundreds and hundreds of members of our community who feel the responsibility to guarantee that proper Jewish education is available for all. If you are not yet part of this effort, now is the time for you to find out more about it and to sign up. Each participating Shul has a “Shul Captain” to provide information and make it easy for you to join. Our Shul Captain is Rabbi Yochanan Posner. Please be sure to speak to him.

CTEEN SHABBATON in NYC
Times Square, Statue of liberty, Crown Heights, 770, the Rebbe's Ohel, were just some of the places our teens from Skokie, together with 700 teens from around the world, visited this past weekend. From driving around the Big Apple in a stretch Hummer to having ice cream at 2 am on Kingston Ave, we had an amazing time.Click here to see pictures of this awesome trip.
“Eighth Day” Back In Chicago
This isn't your mother's Jewish country indie folk rock band! Join Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie and the Jewish Youth House on March 3rd for an amazing concert with breakaway hit band, Eighth Day!
We are excited to have nabbed a great block of seats, where we can be up close to all the energy and action. Eighth Day is most well-known for their danceable fun song, Ya'alili and their Jewish folksy, country, hip indie rock vibe. They are legendary at Skokie Chabad for having played the music that makes tables collapse! (Photos from that Purim are here.) Wednesday is the Fast of Esther. The fast begins at dawn 5:00 a.m. and ends at 6:05 p.m. It is customary to give "Machtzis Hashekel" (“Half Shekel”) before Mincha. We will have a Minyan for Mincha at 5:15 p.m.
