Weekday Mincha Minyan Resumes |
With the change of the clock this week, we will resume having a Mincha Minyan throughout the week. This week, Mincha will be at 6:40 p.m. Maariv is shortly thereafter, and in between you have the option of joining in a few minutes of Torah study, led by Rabbi Raices.
Kiddush Lunches and Alerts |
In honor of Asher Hoffman’s Bar Mitzvah this week, Kiddush this Shabbos will be a lunch, with Challah, so you can wash and have your seudah.
In honor of Tom Atkin’s Bar Mitzvah next week, Kiddush next Shabbos will be a lunch, with Challah, so you can wash and have your seudah.
In honor of Pesach, there will be NO kiddush the Shabbos before Pesach, Parshat Tzav, 3/23/13, because the building will already be cleaned.
Prize Week |
This week we are opening up “shop” for the kids to redeem their tokens for prizes and games. Everyone can shop and choose prizes which will then be placed in bags, with their names, to be taken home during the week.
On Shabbos, one is not allowed to acquire things, so for this halachic reason, prizes cannot be taken home on Shabbos. Prizes will be available for pickup from Tuesday evening onwards. If the parents cannot pick up the prizes at a time when the shul is open for regular davening, you can contact Yona Posner at 847 677 1770 x305 to arrange another time.
Time to Order Matzah |
Now is the time to place your order for hand-baked Shmurah Matzah, to be sure we can provide you with what you need for Pesach, in a timely fashion. Please let us know how many pounds you will need as soon as you can. If you have any special needs, we can probably help you with that, too. Join Rabbi Yochanan Posner for a step-by-step guide to conducting your very own Pesach seder. Whether it is your first time leading a seder, or you’d like a “brush-up” on information, you will finish this class empowered to direct a fully halachic Seder that will be enjoyable for all.

Helping The Needy For Pesach |
Ma’ot Chittim, Tzorchai Hachag, whatever you choose to call it, there is an actual need that you can address in our own community: There are families in our community who are struggling financially with their daily needs. Many of these families simply do not have enough money for the additional expenses of Pesach. Give your contribution to Rabbi Posner to forward to a needy family or donate online here.
Shaimos |
As you clean up for Pesach and encounter the perennial Shaimos problem, please consider carefully what is in fact Shaimos. It is not respectful to the Shaimos to deposit all sorts of non-Shaimos discarded materials with the Shaimos, and please be aware that it costs the shul a lot to dispose of Shaimos.
Shaimos is being accepted Sunday, April 1, at 7532 St.Louis, 2-5 PM. (If you must drop Shaimos at shul, it would be appropriate to help defray the cost to the shul.)

Koshering Utensils for Pesach |
Do you need help koshering utensils for Pesach? Bring your stuff for an open house Koshering, on Thursday, March 21, from 5 pm to 8 pm. We will have a large vat of boiling water ready to Kosher your utensils for Pesach, and personnel to do the koshering for you while you wait. Any utensils to be Koshered must be thoroughly cleaned at least 24 hours before. Only metal tableware or pots can be Koshered. Bakeware, china, etc. cannot be done.

8th Day
The 8th Day concert was pretty awesome! We certainly turned heads with our exclusive customized t-shirts and we rocked the house. We also got some pictures & autographs with the Marcus brothers. Pictures are on Facebook here:
JLI TEENS – WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
JLI Teens is off to a great start: We welcomed some new faces, had great food, and explored awesome ideas. We will meet next Monday to discuss some riveting topics, including “What is real freedom? Why are people willing to die for it?” and “Is democracy a guarantee for freedom?” JLI Teens meets on Monday nights, 7:00 PM at the Mooz. Dinner is served.
Model Matzah Bakery
Children (and even adults) are welcome to come bake their very own matza at the Model Matza Bakery. This event is for all ages. Beginning with wheat kernels, children get really into it, winnowing and separating the chaff, grinding it in a hand-driven wheat mill, mixing, kneading, rolling and baking it finally in the required amount of time. In the Model Matzah Bakery, children learn how Shmurah Matzah is made - literally from "scratch".Sunday March 17th 3:00pm. Cost: $10. For more info and to RSVP, contact Rabbi Chaim.
Jewish Youth Club
The girls club enjoyed delicious pizza this week (thanks to Chalavi), learned life lessons from the Parsha, and had a great time in the Mooz.
The boys celebrated the Bar Mitzvahs of Noah Friedman and Asher Hoffman by having a grand "bonfire in the snow" and a BBQ dinner, We wish Asher and Noah a tremendous Mazel Tov. May you both grow and continue to be a source of Nachas to your parents and family and the entire Jewish people.
There will be no Jewish Youth Clubs this coming week.

Hashovas Aveidah - Missing Coat |
A coat went missing in Shul on Purim. It is a child’s size medium, brown Gap coat. There is a size XXL, brown Gap coat in Shul. Probably someone mistakenly took the wrong one. Please double check your kid’s coat and see whether her coat is way too small for her.

The beginning of the new Hebrew month of Nisan will be Tuesday. We do not say Tachnun during the month of Nissan. We say the “Nasi” for each day (Annotated Siddur, p. 391-397) after Shacharis.
