July 4th Parade

Thursday, July 4th, Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie and the Jewish Youth House will be marching in the Skokie Fourth of July parade. Join us on our float! For more information, speak with Rabbi Chaim.

Jewish Art Calendar For 5774

The Jewish Art Calendar which we produce each year is most people’s favorite calendar. It is informative, pleasing to the eye, and has huge boxes to write in reminders for each day. You can place an ad or have any special dates noted, such as birthdays, anniversaries, yahrzeits, etc., in the Jewish Art Calendar for the coming year. The layout is being designed right now, and will be sent to the printer in about a week. For more information, or to place your ads and dates, please contact us.

Minyan Alert

Many of our daily Minyan regulars are away or not available for a variety of reasons. Please make every effort to join us for weekday Shacharis, Mincha and Maariv, Sunday through Friday, as frequently as you can. The evenings have seen particularly unspectacular attendance lately and would very much appreciate a boost in attendance.

Hebrew School Yard Signs

Skokie Chabad Hebrew School yard signs are popping up all over Skokie! If you would like to proudly display one on your lawn, please contact Rabbi Chaim.

Coming up: Shaimos Collection

As a public service the cRc is collecting Shaimos on Wednesday, July 10th from 10 am to 2 pm ONLY in the parking lot of Hebrew Theological College, 7135 N. Carpenter, Skokie.There will be NO early drop-offs.Empty 16x12x12 boxes will be available in July at the cRc office, 2701 W. Howard in Chicago. There will be no charge for the first filled box; there is a $15 charge for each additional box payable to the cRc in order to defray costs. Partial boxes will be prorated.

Women to New York

Mrs. Raices is leading a group of women to New York to visit and experience the Ohel and 770. The trip will take place on July 23 and 24. Any women who would like to join the group are encouraged to speak to Mrs. Raices.

New Book: Jewish Women’s Book Club

Here’s the new book for Jewish Women’s Book Club: Forever My Jerusalem, by Puah Shteiner.

This is a fascinating, first-hand account of the fall and evacuation of the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, as witnessed through the eyes of a young girl living there in 1948, complete with maps and photos.

Timely Reminders

This Tuesday is the Seventeenth of Tamuz, a fast day marking the day that the walls of Yerushalayim were breached, and beginning the Three Week period of mourning culminating with Tisha B'Av. .

Fast begins Tuesday ........................3:07 a.m. 
Mincha on Tuesday ........................8:05 p.m. (Please note the earlier time.) 
Fast ends..........................................9:10 p.m.

Other sad events occurred on this day, such as the making of the "golden calf" after receiving the Torah.

The Fast begins at dawn. Selichos are recited in Shacharis. At Mincha there is Torah-reading and Haftorah, and we recite Aneinu in Shmona Esrai.

During the Three Weeks period we do not make weddings, and playing musical instruments or listening to music is prohibited, as is the buying and wearing of new garments. We also do not take haircuts during this time. The Rebbe calls for increased acts of Ahavas Yisrael and studying those parts of Torah which discuss building the Bais Hamikdash, such as Navi Yecheskel beginning Ch. 40, Rambam Hilchos Bais Habechira, etc.
