Chai Elul Farbrengen for Men

Please join us this Motza’ai Shabbos (August 24) at 9:30 p.m. for a Farbrengen in honor of Chai Elul, the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe. It is being sponsored by Aaron Miller and being held at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie, 4059 Dempster St. Guest Farbrenger will be Rabbi Boruch Hertz. Running out of Time for Sukkos Orders!

Weare about to place orders for Lulavim and Esrogims. We will place the orders for evergreen Schach in the coming few days. We may still be able to squeeze in some last minute orders. Click here to place an order.

Orders will be available for pickup after Yom Kippur: The Schach should be in right after Yom Kippur, and delivered to homes by the next morning, September 15. The Lulavim and Esrogim should be available for pickup on Tuesday September 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. (with breaks for Mincha and Maariv). If these times are not convenient for you, we can make other arrangements.

A Breath of Fresh Air: Skokie Chabad Hebrew School

Registration is open and filling up for Skokie Chabad Hebrew School! Spread the word! This Hebrew School is a breath of fresh air, and one where kids love to come back. Annotated Machzorim In Russian

The Annotated Machzorim for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have just been released! Each set costs approximately $54. If you would like to sponsor some of these Machzorim for the benefit of Russian-speaking participants at our High Holiday services, please let us know.

New Year's Greeting Cards

Rosh Hashanah is right around the corner! The New Year begins with prayers and the promise of blessings, good health, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Share your New Year sentiments and blessings with your friends, family, and neighbors, and benefit the people we help, by supporting Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie as well.

Help Your Neighbor

There are many local families in our own community that need assistance with the additional Yom Tov expenses. 100% of your contribution goes to help these families. You can give/mail your check to Rabbi Posner to distribute to those in need.

Shofar Housecalls

If you know of anyone who is homebound and cannot be in Shul to hear Shofar, please let us know and we will try to arrange a house call. If you would like to volunteer to blow shofar, please let us know that as well.

Women’s Class on Hiatus

The Wednesday morning class will not take place for the next few weeks and will iy”H resume after the Yomim Tovim.

Fulfill a Daily Mitzvah Easily

The Keren Hashana  fund, established by the Rebbe, disburses Tzedakah before Shacharis and before Mincha every day. By contributing to this fund, you are assured that you are giving Tzedakah twice daily. This year has 385 days, so you may want to give multiples of $7.70 (2 times a day x 385 days). You can give for each member of your family. Include Hebrew names and Hebrew names of the mother for each person participating. You can participate in this special fund via our secure website here.

Preschool Registration Opens Next Monday

Registration for Mrs. Posner’s Preschool for the 2014-15 school year opens next Monday, Labor Day. Applications are accepted on a first come-first served basis. To reserve a spot for your child for next year call 847-677-1770 x. 301 on Labor Day and leave a message. The preschool accepts children ages 2 - 3, for two, three or five days a week, space permitting.

Sukkos Farbrengen Plans

Please join us for our legendary Farbrengens in the Sukkah! There is a Mitzvah of celebrating every day of Sukkos, so we do so by joining in  camaraderie and by sharing good times with friends. We will gather each day of Sukkos at a different home to share good times and inspiration with each other.

Do you want to host one of the Farbrengens? Hosts are already lining up. If you want to reserve a day, our calendar is ready. Not many days are left so hurry!

Mazal Tovs

We extend a hearty Mazal Tov to Ellyn Scheer on the birth of a grandson, to her children Miriam and Yisroel Saacks. May they see much Yiddishe, Chassidishe Nachas.

Mazal Tov to Aaron Breen (New Orleans/Skokie) on his engagement to Shira Balaban (Pittsburgh/Skokie)!  There will be a L’Chaim on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 6707 N. Sacramento, in Chicago. May they share much Simcha together and may they build a Jewish home infused with Torah and Mitzvos.

Timely Reminders

This Shabbos is the 18th of Elul – Chai Elul - which is the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov (in 5458/1698) and of the Alter Rebbe (in 5545/1745). Elul is a month devoted to stocktaking and introspection, and a Chassidic tradition holds that the last twelve days of the year — Elul 18 to 29 — are specifically devoted to the twelve months of the closing year; on each of these twelve days, one should review the deeds and achievements of its corresponding month. Heads Up: Next Motzai Shabbos, August 28, we begin reciting Selichos. The first Selichos will be at 12:50 a.m. on Saturday night. Monday and Tuesday, Selichos will be at 6:05 a.m., and Wednesday, Erev Rosh Hashanah at 5:45 a.m.
