Kaparot

We will have live chickens available for Kaparot on Tuesday, September 10, tentatively scheduled for 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The cost is $14 per chicken; the proceeds go to help needy families with Yom Tov expenses.

We Have the Right Rosh Hashanah Service for You

Whatever your personal style of davening or praying, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for at Chabad.

The Interpretive Service is on the lower level, and features explanations, narration and insights that help make for a more meaningful davening experience. This is great whether you’re an old hand looking for a way to make things fresh, or somewhat less initiated. Try it out, and spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested.

Israeli, or favor an Israeli-style Tefilah? Join Rabbi Menachem Slavaticki. The Chabad Israeli Center will be holding Rosh Hashanah services geared towards the Israeli community and we are happy to be hosting them in a tent in our parking lot.

Of course, for those most comfortable in the traditional style of davening, join us in the main Shul, and enjoy Rabbi Raices’ inspirational tunes.

While we generally do not assign seats, it is helpful if we know how many people to prepare for. Let us know that you intend to be here, and whether you will have guests. If you expect to be away, that would useful knowledge for us as well. As you know, we do not charge, but donations are always welcome atwww.SkokieChabad.org/donate.

Children’s Program for High Holidays

We are working hard to prepare quality children’s programming for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, commensurate with our superlative year-round programming. This includes updating and replacing some of the toys, allowing for more space, and great games and groups.

We will have some snacks available for Rosh Hashana, and will be serving lunches to the children on Yom Kippur. Please let us know if your child will be joining us for lunch, and any other information we should know.

Please bear in mind the longer hours of davening, and the many things going on in Shul over the Yamim Tovim. As always, you know your child best. Plan accordingly, and be flexible to their needs! If you bring a child to Shul, understand that you may need to keep an eye on him/her. Please encourage and make sure that s/he participates in the appropriate children’s program, and be mindful of other people’s Shul experience.

Thank you to the dedicated and caring teachers who will be making things happen, and to all the parent volunteers too.

Fulfill a Daily Mitzvah Easily

The Keren Hashana  fund, established by the Rebbe, disburses Tzedakah before Shacharis and before Mincha every day. By contributing to this fund, you are assured that you are giving Tzedakah twice daily. This year has 385 days, so you may want to give multiples of $7.70 (2 times a day x 385 days). You can give for each member of your family. Include Hebrew names and Hebrew names of the mother for each person participating. You can participate in this special fund via our secure website over here.

Running out of Time for Sukkos Orders!

We have placed the initial orders for Lulavim and Esrogim and Schach. We will place the final orders for evergreen Schach in the coming few days. Click here to place an order.

Orders will be available for pickup after Yom Kippur: The Schach should be in right after Yom Kippur, and delivered to homes by the next morning, September 15. The Lulavim and Esrogim should be available for pickup on Tuesday September 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. (with breaks for Mincha and Maariv). If these times are not convenient for you, we can make other arrangements.

Annotated Machzorim In Russian

The Annotated Machzorim for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have just been released! Each set costs approximately $54. If you would like to sponsor some of these Machzorim for the benefit of Russian-speaking participants at our High Holiday services, please let us know.

Help Your Neighbor

There are many local families in our own community that need assistance with the additional Yom Tov expenses. 100% of your contribution goes to help these families. You can give/mail your check to Rabbi Posner to distribute to those in need.

Shofar Housecalls

If you know of anyone who is homebound and cannot be in Shul to hear Shofar, please let us know and we will try to arrange a house call. If you would like to volunteer to blow shofar, please let us know that as well.

Sukkos Farbrengen Plans

Please join us for our legendary Farbrengens in the Sukkah! There is a Mitzvah of celebrating every day of Sukkos, so we do so by joining in camaraderie and by sharing good times with friends. We will gather each day of Sukkos at a different home to share good times and inspiration with each other.

Do you want to host one of the Farbrengens? We think that we have enough hosts for all of the days, and we are working on scheduling. If you want to be on the waiting list, please let us know.

Plan WAAAY Ahead for End of Sukkot/Simchas Torah

As we do every year, we will have a communal Simchas Torah lunch on 9/27. The food is always great and the atmosphere even better. After a long week of celebrating Sukkot with delicious home-cooked foods, this might just be the ticket! This meal was founded and organized for many years by Manny Scheer, a”h.

In order to be permitted to prepare on Rosh Hashanah for Shabbos, remember to make an Eruv Tavshillin on Erev Rosh Hashanah. (Page 327 in the annotated Tehilas Hashem Sidur)

Rosh Hashanah is this Thursday and Friday. See times and reminders for each day in the “Schedule for the Coming Week”

We continue to say "L'Dovid.." (annotated Tehilas Hashem Sidur, p. 76, 115, 220, 267) in Shacharis and Mincha, and recite three chapters per day of Tehillim concluding on Yom Kippur.

Sunday we observe the fast of Tzom Gedalya.

Tuesday, the sixth of Tishrei is the yahrzeit of the Rebbe's mother.

On Shabbat there will be the regular Shabbat Tefilah L’Yisraelim at 10:00 a.m., lower level, as usual.
