Elections season is in full swing and it seems that the world has gone mad! Both parties’ candidates are far from ideal, and the reports from the conventions are surreal. What does the Torah say about all of this?
Let’s cut past the clutter of political games and media hype, and examine the real issues. I have chosen two topics to examine critically, using the bright lens of Talmudic analysis and Torah wisdom.
- Gun Violence
- Immigration
Please join me for a CLE accredited mini course, which you simply cannot miss!
The stories are heartbreaking and gut-wrenching. People are being shot anywhere, in a movie theater, a classroom, the workplace. What are we supposed to do about gun violence? Should our laws be more restrictive? Are they too restrictive already? How do we balance competing interests of safety and freedom?
This immigration debate is so harsh that people cannot even agree on the terminology. Are they called “undocumented immigrants” or “illegal aliens?” In general should we be welcoming immigration and relaxing its rules? Or should we be more cautious about who is allowed to enter and reside in this land?
How do the Torah’s teaching shape these discussions?
Rabbi Yochanan Posner is teaching these classes three separate times to suite your schedule.
