THIS WEEK: Israel and International Law

Our Friday Night Shabbat dinner is this week! We are expecting record attendance for a delicious dinner, good conversation with friends, and an interesting presentation on “Israel's Borders in International Law” by Professor Eugene Kontorovich.

Chanukah Wonderland: Save the Date!

Bring all the kids for a rollicking good time at the Chanukah Wonderland on 12/25, the fifth day of Chanukah!

Facepaint, dreidel crafts, make your own donut, Chanukah computer central, make a card for an IDF soldier, Chanukah gelt, and even take a photo with Judah Maccabee!

Watch your inbox and mailbox for more info to come in the next few weeks.

Comic Hypnotist at Skokie Chabad Chanukah Lounge: Save the Date!

Mark your calendars for 12/21, and our Chanukah party for adults! We have taken a whole new twist this year, and you’ll enjoy drinks, good food, and great entertainment with a comic hypnotist at our Chanukah Lounge!

Want more info? There’s more coming in the next few weeks.

THIS WEEK: Israel and International Law

The annual International Conference of Shluchim held last week was simply amazing – uplifting and inspiring. You can get a taste of it by watching UK Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks as he speaks to the 4,600 people gatheredSunday night. The video of it can be seen here: http://www.skokiechabad.org/1690783/

Shul Family Album

Please send us your family photo, so we can get a  shul photo album together. The album will have names & photos of all shul members, so you can properly identify your shul buddies. The album will be in a private (password protected) corner of our website.

Why not browse our existing photos online at www.SkokieChabad.org/photos? Perhaps we have one of you that you’d like us to use, let us know.

Please submit current pictures either by email to [email protected] or by snail mail to Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie, 4059 Dempster St., Skokie, IL 60076.

Yud Tes Kislev Farbrengen

We will have a grand Yud Tes Kislev Farbrengen  on Wednesday, December  14, starting at 8:00 p.m. (after Maariv at 7:45 p.m.) at shul.

The farbrengen is being sponsored by Gerald and Rachel Burstyn in honor of their daughter Chana’s birthday.

You can read about Yud-Tes Kislev on our website at www.SkokieChabad.org/335659/

Jewish Youth House Update

Pizza and Parsha
Pizza and Parsha was back in full swing this week, and we’re so excited.!!

JLI Teens
JLI Teens was an incredible success this week!  We explored a case of two men on a sinking boat with only one life jacket. How do we decide whose life is more important?

Join us this Monday, 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Mooz as we explore a very contentious issue: abortion. What does Judaism say about abortion?  Is it murder? Is a fetus considered to be “alive?” Is it morally justified to terminate a pregnancy for convenience? Dinner will be served.

Girls Kiddush
This Shabbos the girls Kiddush will be after davening in the Mooz. For sixth grade and up.

Mazal Tov

We extend a hearty Mazal Tov to Rabbi and Mrs. Yosef and Zeesy Posner on the birth of a granddaughter, Adina, on Wednesday, to their children Menachem and Tehila Posner, in Montreal. May they have much Yiddishe, Chassidishe Nachas.

Kiddush Sponsors

Chaim and Sheri Naiditch in honor of their son Ari's birthday, Luba Adler in memory of  her uncle Berl Adler. In addition to the co-sponsorships of Chaim and Luba, Yakov Honorow is also participating in honour of his wife Rebecca and their anniversary.

Timely Reminders

Earliest Tallis: on Mon: 6:09 am - Fri: 6:15 am *
*) The time we are posting is primarily with our weekday 6:30 minyan attendees in mind. If someone must daven earlier, please be aware that there are other opinions of how to calculate this.

This Monday, the 9th of Kislev, is both the birthday (5534/1773) and the yahrzeit (5588/1827) of the second Lubavitcher Rebbe (the Mitteler Rebbe), R. Dovber.

The tenth of Kislev, Tuesday, is celebrated by Chassidim as the day that the Mitteler Rebbe was released from Czarist imprisonment in 5587/1826. We do not say Tachnun in Tuesday Mincha or on Wednesday.

You can read more about the life and times of the Mitteler Rebbe on our website, here.
