A Breath of Fresh Air: Skokie Chabad Hebrew School

New Year's Greeting Cards

Rosh Hashanah is right around the corner! The New Year begins with prayers and the promise of blessings, good health, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Share your New Year sentiments and blessings with your friends, family, and neighbors, and benefit the people we help, by supporting Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie as well.

Our New Torah goes National!

This Sunday we celebrated the completion and dedication of the new Sefer Torah donated by Marge Fettman, and a beautiful crowd of people showed up to honor the new Sefer Torah. Kids and adults participated with much fanfare and enthusiasm as the Torah was finished in the park, and we danced it into shul. Many news outlets, both local and national, picked up the story. Report from National Jewish Retreat

The word is in and it's official! The National Jewish Retreat is the best getaway of the year, with top-of-the-line food, entertainment, and nourishment for the soul. This land-cruise had our Skokie participants floating on cloud nine! Mixed metaphors aside, you can see some pictures and snapshots from this year's retreat at https://www.facebook.com/jretreat.  Mark your calendars so you can join the Skokie delegation next year, from 8/6/14 through 8/10/14!

Mazal Tovs

We extend a hearty Mazal Tov to Sid and Lisa Weiser on the engagement of their daughter Rivka to Ephraim Schnaidman, son of David and Esther of Teaneck NJ. May they see much Yiddishe, Chassidishe Nachas!

Timely Reminders

During the month of Elul, which began this week, we say "L'Dovid" (Sidur p. 76, 115, 220, 267, Old Sidur p. 81) in Shacharis and Mincha, we blow Shofar each morning after davening, and recite three chapters of Tehillim per day, concluding on Yom Kippur. It is customary to check Tefillin and Mezuzas during the month of Elul, if this hasn't been done recently.

Shabbat L’Yisraelim

Shabbat L'Yisraelim, provided by Rabbi Menachem Slavaticki and the Chabad Israeli Center, will meet this Shabbat at 10:00 a.m. on the lower level for Shacharit. The Tefila is followed by a complete Seudat Shabbat.
