Jewish Youth House Update |
CTEEN CHANUKAH BASH
We started Chanukah with a bang at the Jewish Youth House! Tuesday, the first night of Chanukah, saw teens from all over Skokie coming together, Lighting a Menorah made out Coke bottles , eating latkes, playing dreidle, packing gifts to be sent to the soldiers of the IDF, and designing their very own Menorahs made out of random items.
Jewish Youth Club
Wednesday the boys club visited Alden Estates to bring the Chanukah spirit to the residents. We lit the Menorah, sang songs, and gave out little gifts. The residents really enjoyed themselves. Thank you, boys, so much! You did a great mitzvah.
The girls club will be visiting Krasnow Residence, 8901 Gross Point Road, Skokie, IL 60077. For more info contact Rochel 847.477.1770. x 312
MENORAH LIGHTING WITH THE MAYOR
We had a great time in downtown Skokie at the Park of Civic Pride< lighting the outdoor Menorah, and eating hot chocolate and delicious donuts. Skokie Mayor Van Dusen spoke to the crowd and commended those who braved the weather.

Timely Reminders |
This Monday we will be on legal holiday schedule, with Shacharis at 8:00 a.m. and Mincha at 4:15 p.m.
Chanukah continues through Wednesday. During Chanukah, we do not say Tachnun. We add Hallel in Shacharis (p. 307) and say V’al Hanissim in Shmone Esrai and Bentching. Friday, we light the Chanuka Menorah before the Shabbos candles. The Chanukah candles have to burn for at least a half hour after dark, which is about an hour and a half in total. Ordinary Chanukah candles will not burn that long. Suggestion Use oil, Shabbos candles, or tea lights. After Shabbos, light the Chanukah candles after Havdalah. For detailed instructions on how to light your menorah and more about Chanukah, read here.
Earliest Tallis: on Mon: 6:21 am - Fri: 6:22 am *
*) The time we are posting is primarily with our weekday 6:30 minyan attendees in mind. If someone must daven earlier, please be aware that there are other opinions of how to calculate this.
The Molad of Chodesh Teves will be Sunday morning, 7:20 a.m. and 17 Chalakim
Rosh Chodesh Teves will be Monday and Tuesday.
