There are things that can’t be seen
That blossom in the night,
Away from all cacophony,
And life that burns too bright.
Beside the rail I now perceive
That in shadow there is light,
Shimmering rays from moon and stars,
That reach the furthest heights.
The bitter pain that crippled me
To shape the sorrow that I feel,
Has briefly fled to chasms lost
Beyond the vast, vast sea.
Its absence lets me contemplate
The difference life has made
With all the hurt, with all the ache,
For family, friends, and beauty too,
And love, yes love, which I once knew.
The Captain, whom I do not know,
Has set sail to unknown shores.
Perhaps a place where we might
Thrive to continue as before;
I will not question where we’ll end,
And simply trust that He
Will take us to a place of sun,
Surrounded by the bright white sand
And iridescent sea.
Across our path the winds might blow.
And storms might force us from our course
But darkness will not worry me
Because I’m now at home.
The swish of waves against the bow,
The gentle roll which cradles me,
As I stroll out among the stars
And find at last I’m free.
